The Social Rundown: Facebook Groups, Crime Tweets & the Verizon iPad

Welcome to another edition of The Social Rundown, your short and sweet snapshot of recent social media hoopla. Here’s what we got:

Facebook Groups have had people buzzing this week. Now you can silo your communications, interacting exclusively with your book club, church group, family…simply create a group, add contacts and start engaging. The possibilities are pretty endless, and as with all Facebook updates, I see adoption of this tool becoming just as popular and commonplace as all the rest. How will you use Facebook Groups?

The U.K.’s Greater Manchester Police have taken to Twitter. In an effort to increase awareness of crime and showcase the important work that the police do, The GMP now tweet out every single call they get, 24 hours a day. That means about 1 tweet per minute…from THREE different Twitter accounts! You can follow the updates here, here and here and check out the hashtag #gmp24. Do you see other businesses or industries taking up this tactic?

Big news for Verizon customers who also happen to be Apple fans: the iPad is coming to the Verizon network on October 28th! Does this mean we’ll see the infamous and illusory Verizon iPhone sometime soon? Who knows, but this definitely looks like a first step.
